| Using
a StaRRsed Compact since 1998
“This
is the Best Investment we have made in Ten Years"
Introduction
St. Peter’s Hospital is a 545-bed academic teaching hospital
and tertiary care center, which offers a "community hospital"
setting and feeling. As a tertiary hospital, it provides specialized
care that is typically not available at a community hospital. As
a leading teaching hospital, its staff of physician and nurses have
extensive training in a variety of specialty programs such as cardiology,
oncology, surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, internal
medicine, obstetrics, emergency room and trauma, women's health,
and geriatrics. St Peters is located in Anywhere, USA.
The
StaRRsed Compact in the Hematology Lab
“We
are running a tight ship at our hospital laboratory where we do
around 1,400 sed rates per month,” says clinical laboratory
manager Thomas Johnson. He has been responsible for the operations
for many years. |

Before
we decided on the StaRRsed Compact, we were using the Vesmatic system.
Rather than discuss that system, Tom explains why he is very pleased
with the StaRRsed Compact.
“First of all, the system takes all subjectivity away from
the user. The mixing of citrate is done fully automatically. The
reading of the sedimentation rate takes away any human error and
provides a consistent way of interpreting the result.
“Second,” Tom continues “the StaRRsed uses the
true Westergren method. That means the best possible parameter that
physicians can ask for. If only all manufacturers would use that
method.
“Also a great feature is the way the StaRRsed uses any tubes
with the pierced cap to suction the blood sample into the machine.
All in all it is a great machine and I do not exaggerate is I say
that this system is the best investment we have made in the last
ten years.”
